Groups like Chapeltown in Bloom rely on volunteers and are always keen for extra pairs of hands. Talking to the current volunteers there is so much they get out of volunteering: meeting new people, getting to know what is happening in the community, feeling good about what they have achieved, the friendship of the group, improving the area, having a laugh, a sense of satisfaction…
Each volunteer gives the amount of time they can manage, with no pressure to do more. One member goes out every day litter picking (he is close to achieving his target of 200 bags of rubbish collected!). Another has young children so does the tasks like printing leaflets that can be done from home.
Others are out watering in the summer or for the monthly working parties, contact Howard House for more information. The message from the group is that ‘volunteers do not necessarily have the time, they just have the heart’, so if you love Chapeltown, why not go along one day. You might be surprised how much you enjoy yourself.
WE ARE IN CHAPELTOWN MOST SATURDAY MORNINGS – COME AND HAVE A CHAT!
